Independence for Scottish Oldies

My name is David Neill and I have worked in bars, as a waiter, on taxi's and buses. Also in fishing out of Aberdeen, on a sawmill, on farms, as a site clerk where gas came ashore in Scotland.

I was a laboratory technician in two schools, one in Dundee; a Mathematics teacher at Forfar Academy and a Physics teacher at Mackie Academy.

I have been on two Community Councils; on one as a Secretary and on the other as a Treasurer.

At Aberdeen University, I was involved in the Royal Navy; I was on student representative council and printed the first-year magazine.

I have an Hon. degree in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (Open University);

I also have a Yacht Master certificate, PADI instructor.

With all this experience I can make a positive contribution to the Scottish Parliament.

UNILATERAL DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

UDI for separation or referendum or …but do not ask LONDON UK

A post-legislative referendum was held in Scotland in 1979 to decide whether there was a sufficient support for a Scottish Assembly proposed in the Scotland Act 1978 among the Scottish electorate. This was an act to create a devolved deliberative assembly for Scotland.

A majority (51.6%) of voters supported the proposal, but an amendment to the Act stipulated that it would be repealed if less than 40% of the total electorate voted in favour. As there was a turnout of 64% the "Yes" vote represented only 32.9% of the registered electorate, and the act was subsequently repealed.

This is a document that was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, and that announced the separation of 13 North American British colonies from Great Britain. It explained why the Congress on July 2 “unanimously” by the votes of 12 colonies (with New York abstaining) had resolved that “these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be Free and Independent States.” Accordingly, the day on which final separation was officially voted was July 2, although the 4th, the day on which the Declaration of Independence was adopted, has always been celebrated in the United States as the great national holiday—the Fourth of July, or Independence Day.

Our aims

Social Security Scotland says Dignity, Fairness and Respect.

Better and free bus services using electric buses. Railway passes, Electric trains and Windmills.
To get respect from the media.
To get your pension which you saved up for many years, without paying more tax on it. Not sure if I paid taxes on it when I saved but lots of tax on my pension enough to pay my state pension which I had already paid into all my working years.

When your partner dies, you have to pay 75% council rates. Poll tax great. The house is rated as if two people lived in it. Why? Poll tax was partly fairer. A combination system needs to be developed.

Reduce Council tax for oldies mine is £160 per month state pension £794.60 per month. 160/794.60 = 20.2%, 1/5 of my state pension.

A house with 4 or 5 people pay same council tax as two.

More rubbish. More water usage. More cars for road usage.

Road is primarily the responsibility of the council.

This should be paid for out of road tax. 10% of people don’t have a car and are paying council tax therefore paying for roads.

Tractors should pay road tax direct to local council.

Road tax to Scottish Government all to be spent on roads.

Freedom of movement around Europe - not 90 days and then away for 90 days. Norwegian model best.
North Sea oil and electricity generation should pay taxes to Scotland not the UK. It's our sea not England’s sea. The border was change in 1997
I’m glad to see the SNP nationalised Scotrail. Long overdue.
Nationalise bus services as well as the electricity supply.
Keep the water service in the State’s hands poor England in a mess over its privatised water System
The Scottish National Health Service should not be used by the private sector at all.
Scottish pound supported by whisky not gold.
We give 52% of our taxes to the UK.
We live on 48% of the taxes collected in Scotland.
That does include what stollen from the North Sea oil
The King also gets about 20 % from the oil

UK

Stop paying for a high-speed railway in England.
Stop paying for Royal Navy aircraft carriers. We are not a superpower.
Stop paying for Nuclear Subs in fact send to Canvey Island which is 25 miles from the centre of London. Like the 2 places in Scotland, one is 25 miles from the centre of Glasgow and the other is 25 miles from the centre of Edinburgh.
We are the first target for Russia if we go to war.

Oldies and childcare. This could help both and is done in Germany with great success. A bit like Come Dancing! Help each other!

Old age pension is a right not a benefit. When I started to claim my old age pension and asked how I could live on that amount I was told I could get BENEFITS.
Help the oldies. We represent 21% of the Scottish vote.
Independence is dependent on us.
Get a pension compatible with EFTA countries.
As an independent country we will be better off, just like Norway.

On major issues consult the nation.
That is Real Democracy. This is done in Switzerland.

Stop paying for London and its two Parliaments.
Get rid of the “Lords”.

A Second Chamber in Scotland could consist of one member from each council.

Get BBC for free or create SBC. BBC = Bias Broadcast Corporation
As an independent country we will be better off, just like Norway.
Social Security like Holland. Get max of 90% of basic wage.

What are you worth

Do not believe papers when they say we would not get our pension if we left the UK. Our contract is with the UK. This is a big lie.

Fortunately I have a teacher’s pension which I pay tax on. The amount pays for all my state pension, so not starving yet; I can turn on the heat occasionally.

But as an Independent country we have enough resources to give everyone a pay rise and look after our Oldies better.

To go into a care home costs £7,500 to £8,000 a month.

Tax

Road tax to go to Scottish Government not UK.

The Scottish government should also spend all this money on Roads and Cycle paths.
I want to see cycle paths covered with solar panels so that they can protect the cyclist and pedestrians from the rain and put electrical energy back to the local site.

I paid road tax for my bike in Belgium when I was 10 years old.

But we had good cycle paths everywhere; so does Holland.

I would like to see cycle paths, not on the roads, but perhaps next to them behind a hedge so the fumes from the traffic are absorbed and the wind rush from the traffic is also stopped.

To get more cycle paths and electric bikes. Wheelchair friendly paths. Also, safe pedestrian paths. We need to do this to help reduce pollution of the atmosphere.

Scottish National Health Service should not be used by the private sector in any way. Private medicine, private hospitals. Not using state hospitals.

My father was in the medical corps of the army. He said Matrons look after the wards. One of his jobs was buying all the medical equipment for army, navy and air forces. This saved a lot of money as he was bulk buying. I feel the SNHS should do the same. Not each hospital doing its own. Also, no CEO in the hospitals. What do they get paid for? We need more hospitals. Not less and concentrated in small areas. Reduce the travel time for patients.

Stop England taking our assets.

Oil, wind generated electricity, tidal generated electricity.

They took our oak trees to fight the Spanish. We need more forests in Scotland in Scottish Public hands. Not big Landowners. 50 % of land is owned by 2%.

Reduce grouse shooting and grow more trees. This helps to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere.

Support our family farmers NOT large corporations.

STOP, STOP, STOP

Stop paying for a high-speed railway in South of England.
Stop paying for nuclear weapons.
Stop housing nuclear warships, 25 miles from the centre of Glasgow down the Clyde and on the other side 25 miles from Edinburgh down the Forth. Put them in Canvey Island which 25 miles from the centre of London.

As a child I lived on Canvey Island on a houseboat.
I went back there 20 years ago. Hardly any house boats there now. Plenty room for a nuclear sub.

Scotland cannot build a connection to Northern Island due to bombs between them. Likewise more bombs in the north of Scotland.
There have also been spills into the Clyde from the subs.

Stop paying for London and it’s Two Parliaments. Get rid of the “Lords”.
Stop paying for aircraft carriers. We are not a world empire any more.
Stop paying overseas farms.
Stop paying for overseas military places.
Stop paying for conflict in the middle east.
Stop paying....... the list goes on.

Independence

Oldies help to get Independence. Remember, we have 21% of the Scottish vote.

Go for a better future and think of our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Independent Scotland in some way affiliated with the EU or EFTA.

The EU countries can come here for 180 days at a time.
The Bank of England was set up by a Scot.
The Bank of Scotland was created a few years later and is independent from the Bank of England. We have our own currency.
We had a stock Exchange up to a few years ago.
We had steel, coal, ship building but this was undermined by the English Conservatives.
Scottish pound, supported by whisky not gold.
A second chamber in Scotland could be a member from each council. But internet communcations only - NO physical chamber.
On major issues ask the nation. Real democracy, like Switzerland.
We have tourism, fish, whisky, electronics industry, lots of farms, we produce seed potatoes for Europe and Africa.
Scotland is a very inventive nation: tarmac roads, TV, mathematics, Telephone communication, TV, Penicillin, Radar, Medicine… the list goes on.
Support Scotland independence or die under the English government with the poorest pension in developed Europe.

Working

Encourage working, not relying on the state. l met three women who are living on state benefits because they get more than working a basic week.

Increase the level when you start paying taxes or make working more profitable.
Dutch benefits are 90% of a basic wage.
Stop overseas accounts for rich people.

They also say Scottish Education is poor. We have more pupils going on to further education than England. I was also a teacher for many years.

But supported no more pylons down the Strathmore plain. I went to SSEN meeting 3 years ago raising this. As a shareholder I wanted to put the cables underground. They said it was too expensive. But another company did so in Fife last year.

I also worry about wind farms where their cables go. Thinking of our fishing grounds

I used to be a member of the liberal party until it joined with the conservatives and forced students in England to take a loan to go to university.

In Scotland.SNP gave university fees free.

Reform no independence

They will destroy the NHS.

The increased immigration is because we came out of the EU by Farage and Boris Johnson

Electricity

We pay more for electricity that is generated in Scotland than people in the south of England. No daily charge.

The pylons interfere with farmland as in the Strathmore Plain.

All cables should be underground, for loss of land reasons, loss of view reasons and suspected giving cancer.

Land better farms in family hands not corporations and grow more trees.

Take back control in Scotland.

Build another refinery.
No freeports.

Fishing

Get back our original fishing grounds before 1997.
Stop the UK government giving EU 10 years more fishing rights in our waters.
Scottish fishing by the EU in Scottish water.
Only Scottish fishing boats in Scottish waters. I saw the size of mesh when the EU countries enter our water. So small a tadpole could NOT get through it.
